Translatium was created nearly 10 years ago as a personal side project and has always been offered free of charge. Over the years, it grew to serve a large number of users, but it was built using various free tools and unofficial APIs, and maintained in our spare time.
As the user base increased, the limitations of this setup became more apparent. Infrastructure costs grew, issues became harder to manage, and we lacked the time and resources to improve the app or offer adequate support. We reached a point where continuing development wasn’t sustainable.
Given the value people found in Translatium and our experience in building translation tools, we decided to build Lexibird as a more sustainable alternative. Lexibird is powered by newer AI technologies and operates as a commercial product—with both free and paid options—so we can fund ongoing development, maintenance, and support.
